Images from a project that asked us to create a 3-dimensional chair from a typeface. I chose Bell Centennial by Matthew Carter as I found it's adaptability to technology fascinating, and as I was trying to achieve something similar with an ampersand, I thought it would be appropriate. The final design takes the latin version of &, ET, and masks the negative space by placing the ampersand behind it. The final shape is then simply extruded.
